The Rot­ter­dam Con­ven­tion on prior informed con­sent (PIC) pro­ce­dure which cov­ers pes­ti­cides and indus­trial chem­i­cals that are a sub­ject of inter­na­tional trade.

Con­ven­tion encour­ages share of respon­si­bil­i­ties and coop­er­a­tion among Par­ties in the area of inter­na­tional trade of cer­tain haz­ardous chem­i­cals in order to pro­tect human health and the envi­ron­ment from poten­tial harm; to con­tribute to the envi­ron­men­tally sound use of those haz­ardous chem­i­cals, by facil­i­tat­ing infor­ma­tion exchange about their char­ac­ter­is­tics, by pro­vid­ing for a national decision-​making process on their import and export and by dis­sem­i­nat­ing these deci­sions to Par­ties. The Con­ven­tion was rat­i­fied by the Repub­lic of Moldova accord­ing to Law nr 389-​XV from 25.11.2004. Min­istry of Ecol­ogy and Nat­ural Resource is des­ig­nated as com­pe­tent author­ity for coor­di­na­tion of exe­cu­tion of pro­vi­sions of the convention.
