Review

This June 2010 guide is based on the Third Revision Edition (2009) of the GHS Purple Book. Unless otherwise specified, all references to the parts, chapters, sections, annexes, paragraphs, etc. refer to the Third Revised Edition of the GHS Purple Book. Subsequent editions of this Guide may be updated in view of ongoing revisions to the GHS Purple Book.

This handbook is adapted from the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) “Guide to the GHS”. UNITAR gratefully acknowledges the work of OSHA in producing this document.

The views, opinions and/or interpretation of the GHS criteria contained in this guide are those of the authors and do not necessarily represent those of the Sub-Committee of Experts on the GHS (SCEGHS). For any further guidance or interpretation regarding the GHS, the reader is strongly recommended to refer directly to the “Purple Book”.
